Burlington Northern says work started on safety signals and gates at the Mountain View Crossing in Sandpoint known as the Gooby crossing. Crews broke ground despite frozen ground after a six day delay awaiting equipment.

Free Christmas Show for Sandpoint Youth at Panida Theatre

The Panida Theatre in Sandpoint hosts a free young audience show on Thursday starting 1:00 p.m. with Don Knotts in The Shakiest Gun in the West and several car-related acts. House Exempts 22 Ammunition From Gun Act

Washington reports the House voted 247 to 59 to repeal the record keeping requirement for 22 caliber rimfire ammunition, despite pleas by Rep. Emanuel Celler and Rep. Kent to maintain controls. The bill would keep records for other ammunition and firearms, with Senate opposition anticipated from Edward Kennedy and Thomas Dodd.

Samuelson Wife Ruby Undergoes Uterine Cancer Treatment

Boise Idaho UPI The wife of Governor Don Samuelson Ruby is being treated for uterine cancer. The governor says the disease was caught early and recovery odds are near 100 percent. She had radium treatment in a Boise hospital and is now recovering at home. He urges Idahoans to seek regular checkups and start treatment promptly if danger signals appear.

Figures Show Unemployment Highest Here

Idaho's insured unemployment rate rose 4.5 percent for the week ending December 12, higher than the national 4 percent. Area rates: 8.6 in the north, 7.5 in north-central, 3.2 southwestern, 3.4 south-central, 3.3 eastern. Worsley proposed legislative action to join a federal extended benefit program based on 13 week averages and insured unemployment.

Vote Law May Require Three Idaho Ballots

Idaho officials cite a Supreme Court ruling allowing 18 year olds to vote in federal races which could require up to three ballots in the 1972 election. Residency limits and minimum voting ages would shape separate president and congressional ballots for different voter groups.

Sandpoint Weather Mixed Snow Showers and Cold

Sandpoint sees cloudy skies with light snow showers today, partial clearing tonight and Thursday, cold with a 50 percent today and 30 percent tonight, 10 percent Thursday. Northern Idaho outlook forecasts partly cloudy Christmas Day with scattered snow Saturday and Sunday, highs 20 to 35, lows 10 to 20.
