Sandpoint Co-op posts strong 11.07 percent savings

The Sandpoint Co-op Gas and Supply Co. reported an 11.07 percent net savings for the year at its annual meeting. Sales to patrons reached 2,472,533.29 with costs of goods at 1,898,419.06 for a gross margin of 574,114.23 and after expenses and patronage refunds a net savings of 273,559.28. Total assets stood at 1,458,287.33 with equal liabilities and equities. directors elected were Walt Eldred John Macks and Ardley Burt.

Vehicle Tests in Hofmeister Case Set for Wednesday

Special prosecutor in the June Hofmeister homicide case will join Spokane County Sheriff’s Office to run routine tests on the pickup where Hofmeister’s body was found. Boise Attorney Thomas Frost says charges depend on test findings. Autopsy ruled strangulation. earlier tests and costs to be reimbursed to the county.

House Interior Committee Buries Hells Canyon Bill

Washington UPI. The House Interior Committee abruptly canceled a final meeting and buried the Hells Canyon National Recreation Area bill. The measure would have protected 100 miles of the Snake River, blocked a proposed hydroelectric dam at the Asotin site, and repealed federal dam authorization. Environmental groups backed it while electric utility lobbyists opposed it led by Rep. Craig Hosmer.

Boise Cascade says a weak wood products market forces temporary shutdowns of several Pacific Northwest mills starting Jan 1. Four Idaho saw mills and one plywood mill will also close as the company aligns output with demand.

Kokanee Spawning Up as IFG Plans 1 Million Eggs

Idaho Fish and Game biologists report higher kokanee spawning on Lake Pend Oreille this year and plan to hatch about 1 million eggs. Eggs collected from Sullivan Springs will be raised in hatcheries at Clark Fork and Sandpoint with most fry released locally next spring and about 200000 sent to Salmon Falls Creek in south Idaho.
