Local groups announce December gatherings in Sandpoint including bake sales at Sears and a Christmas dinner program at Westmond Grange. Other items cover turkey shoots at Sandpoint Gun Club, Al Anon meetings, and gift exchanges along with church drives for the elderly.
Pastor Grorud announces the Christmas schedule for First Lutheran Church. Dec 17 includes Sunday School at 9 30 a m Advent Hymn Festival 11 a m and Sunday School Christmas Program at 4 p m. Dec 24 has worship at 11 a m and 7 30 p m candlelight service. Dec 25 features Christmas Day Communion at 10 a m. Dec 31 repeats Sunday School 9 30 a m and worship 11 a m. Youth and Chancel choirs provide special music with noted directors and accompanists.
The Draft Environmental Statement on herbicides for 1972 on the Newport Ranger District Kaniksu National Forest is open for public review. Darrel Kenops urged comments by January 30, 1973 to help shape the final statement. Public copies are available at the Ranger Districts and Forest Supervisor's Office. Roadside spraying of noxious weeds using 2 4 D 2 4 5 T and Silvex is planned along Highway 31, affecting three acres of forest land.

The social security office in Coeur d'Alene says survivors of workers disabled before death may gain disability benefits even if the worker never filed. The new rules apply to deaths after 1969 with deadlines for filing, including a February 1, 1973 cutoff for workers dying before November 1972. Survivors must file within three months after death for future cases, and retroactive benefits require timely filing. Roger Fulton mayor of Kellogg named Chairman for Region I of Law Enforcement Planning in Idaho. Rex Farris elected Vice Chairman and A V Hippler re elected Secretary and Fiscal Officer. Region I will allot about 260000 dollars in federal funds for 1973 projects including new public safety facilities in Shoshone County and a center in Latah County.
Commodities will be distributed at the old Bonner County Fair Grounds from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Dec 19 and 20. Applicants may apply at the Department of Social and Rehabilitation Services Riverside Building in Sandpoint. Bring containers or boxes to collect goods.
