Court Upholds Conviction of Jet Hijacker Riggs
The 4th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals upheld Glen Elmo Riggs's 20 year sentence for hijacking a United Airlines jet from Charleston West Virginia to Newark. The court rejected claims that Judge Oren Lewis prejudiced the case while noting the trial record showed Riggs pulled a gun about 20 minutes from Charleston and demanded to fly to Israel. The plane stopped at Dulles where crew overpowered him.
