Sandpoint council asks club to drop lease near airport
The Sandpoint City Council urged Mountain View Community Club to abandon the remaining nine years of its 25 year lease on five acres near Bonner County Airport to enable trading the land to Great Northern Railway for runway lengthening. Yager said the lease blocks the rail exchange. the club may relocate its 20 by 50 foot building to a nearby site. The vote also moves to fund moving costs if the club relinquishes the lease.

Co-op Wins Fuel Bids for Bonner County Districts
Bonner County commissioners opened seven bids Monday for gasoline and diesel supplies. Co-op Gas and Supply of Sandpoint was the low bidder for gasoline and diesel for districts 1 and 3 and for diesel in district 2. Texaco Inc of Sandpoint was low bidder for gasoline to the sheriff and Texaco Newport for road district gasoline. Co-op bid 21.1 cents per gallon for gasoline and 12.8 cents per gallon for diesel in districts 1 and 3. Texaco bid 23.54 cents per gallon for sheriff gasoline. The measure to accept the lowest bids passed unanimously.

Death Not From Accident in Two Car Spokane Crash
Mrs. Eugene Carpenter 44 died from massive peritonitis not injuries from a two car crash east of Kootenai. Autopsy showed abdominal infection from recent surgery, no connection to the accident. Driver Eugene Carpenter and passenger Frank Mauro injured. Maki cited for failing to yield right of way. An inquest was canceled.

Two Hunters Found Safe Near Bonners Ferry
Sam MecNeary and Eddie Bangman of Sandpoint were found cold but in good health at the Myrtle Creek Game Preserve seven miles west of Bonners Ferry after spending the night outdoors in freezing temperatures. Their pickup was found early Sunday after a disappearance reported Saturday night during a hunting trip. Explorer Scouts from Bonners Ferry, Boundary County sheriff's deputies, and volunteers aided the search.

Schweitzer Basin to Open Thursday Despite Light Snow
