Lillian Shields 85 dies after long life in Sandpoint area
Lillian Shields 85 of Sagle died Tuesday evening in Sandpoint. Born April 2 1892 in St Paul Minnesota she taught in Minnesota and North Dakota before marriage in 1913. She and Arthur Shields homesteaded in Wyoming then moved to Idaho homesteads before settling in Sandpoint area. Survived by two sons Royal and Denny three daughters Rachel Olson Arlene Yeakel Joyce Robinson a brother Howard Shaw 16 grandchildren 15 great grandchildren. Services Saturday 11 am at Moon Chapel with interment Pinecrest Memorial Park. Memorials to Gideon Bible Society preferred.

Elmer Milton Woods age 73 died Wednesday at his Samuels home. He is survived by his wife Sylvia one son and two daughters. Funeral services are pending at Moon Chapel.

Southside Fire Protection District eyed for Bonner County
A petition approved by county officials aims to form the Southside Fire Protection District to cover rural areas around the lake. If voters say yes on December 20, Bonner County would gain a third rural district with anticipated rate relief and added peace of mind. A state rating official projected an eight for the district, signaling strong protection and insurance savings.

Fish and Game Commission balks at Idaho Oregon elk trade
The Idaho Fish and Game Commission told the department to seek removal from a pact trading 10 mountain goats and 20 bighorn sheep for 100 elk with Oregon. Oregon delivered 68 elk to Pete King Creek in 1976, 32 more were due last winter but could not be trapped. The commission also directed asking Oregon to take two thirds of the owed animals.
