A Gulf of Mexico helicopter crash killed 17 offshore oil workers and left 2 survivors. Idaho Sets Big Game Opening Dates for 1978 Season

Idaho Fish and Game Commission sets 1978 opening dates with most seasons starting on Wednesdays to ease hunting pressure. A muzzleloader elk and deer hunt is created in Unit 3 east of Lake Coeur d Alene after a local request. Three moose hunt permits will be drawn in northern Idaho, with two permits in one half of the area and one half receiving three permits overall. Closing dates and other permit details to be announced at a winter meeting.

Policy Plan Approved River Property Purchased

The Idaho Fish and Game Commission approved purchasing the 11 000 acre Burdett Prince ranch near Waha south of Lewiston for 16 million dollars. The state will fund the rest over two years with a federal grant covering about one third. The site will be managed for elk mule deer and chukar habitat. The commission also adopted the final draft of the first volume of the three volume policy plan after 49 responses.

Stonebraker to Head Idaho Fish and Game Commission

Keith Stonebreaker an insurance agent from Lewiston was elected chairman of the Idaho Fish and Game Commission at a Boise meeting. He was appointed by Gov. Cecil Andrus about a year ago and will serve a one year term starting Jan 27.
