Suit Filed Over Chairlift Evacuation Kit Accident

Blaze Destroys Ponderay House in North Idaho

A fire destroyed the home of John Laude near State Highway 200 in Ponderay. Firefighters arrived within ten minutes, moved propane tanks and a trailer, and prevented spread to a shed. Laude and spouse were away. neighbors organized clothing and household item donations.

Santa Claus to Visit Sandpoint This December

Santa Claus and his reindeer team are said to be en route to northern Idaho. He is due to land near Sandpoint on Saturday December 11. The Sandpoint Fire Department will escort him to the IWA Hall where he will greet visitors from 10 30 a m to 2 p m and distribute gifts.

1977 Grazing Fees Held at 1976 Levels in Western States

The Forest Service says grazing fees for cattle horses and sheep on 11 western National Forests and all Bureau of Land Management lands stay at 1976 levels. Fees average 1.60 per animal unit month. A March 1 1977 start date applies with a study deadline to Congress by Oct 21 1977. The action also covers South Dakota and Nebraska though not required by law.

Ranger Allocations Complete Projects

Money allocated to the Sandpoint Ranger District under the Public Works and Economic Assistance Act was exhausted after completing projects. A total of 227698 dollars funded 196 unemployed workers from April to October, with four still on payroll. Jobs taught surveying, carpentry, drafting, mag card typing and tool use as 75 percent of funds were to salaries. Sandpoint exceeded this with 87 percent. Projects included brush disposal on 894 acres, improvements at Sandpoint Work Center and Lunch Peak Lookout, campgrounds maintenance, corner remonumentation, 3.2 miles of trail reconstruction, 985000 trees planted on 197 acres, and clerical tasks at the Sandpoint Service Center Library.
