Beach Committee Recommends City Adopt U of Idaho Plan

The Sandpoint Beach Committee voted to adopt University of Idaho design recommendations for beach improvements, pending engineering changes and funding. The meeting at the City Beach hut included Chamber Redevelopment members and most councilors, with criticism raised about delays in pursuing state and federal funding.

Early Morning House Fire Damages Sandpoint Home

An early a m fire at 717 North Sixth Avenue Sandpoint destroyed the rear of a wooden frame residence owned by Edward Scott. Fire Chief Art Chubb said the blaze started in a bedroom and spread to the kitchen and bathroom. The Scotts were away at the time. the structure was saved with smoke and water damage overall.

Sandpoint Man Passes Real Estate Broker Exam

Bill Fournier of Sandpoint, a United Farm Agency representative, has passed the Idaho Real Estate Board broker certification requirements. A Sandpoint native, he has three years with United Farm Agency and serves with the Sandpoint Jaycees, Bonner County Sportsmen Assn, the Elks, and the Chamber of Commerce as a director.

Sandpoint Scouts Return From World Scout Jamboree in Japan

Three Sandpoint senior scouts Fred Marienau Jim Parsons and Rick Sargent recount their ten day stay in Japan during the 3th World Scout Jamboree at Asig iri Heights. They describe Japanese hospitality including open merchandising and a typhoon that drenched the site. They toured Kyoto Nara Nikko and Tokyo and praised the closing ceremony fireworks while noting health issues of their Scoutmaster Arnold Hanusa who suffered a heart attack.

Fire Rips Mill In Spokane

A morning fire and explosion at the Centennial Mills starch plant on Spokane east side caused extensive damage but no injuries. The blast around 8:30 a.m. blew out seventh floor windows and firefighters quickly controlled the blaze, officials attributing the start to a spark in a bin or machine.
