Venue Change Sought In Hofmeister Murder Trial

Judge Edward Lodge in Caldwell continued a venue change bid for former Bonner County prosecutor Everett Hofmeister Jr. amid extensive publicity in the case. Defense attorney Thomas Mitchell urged Lewiston as a new site with September 15 as a target trial date, while Special Prosecutor Thomas Frost offered no opposition.

Sandpoint Airport Study Outlines Major Upgrades

The Sandpoint Municipal Airport study by J A B Engineers lists 421 458 dollars in proposed improvements though the Board of County Commissioners plans to undertake only two items initially. FAA funding could cover up to 83 64 percent with state matching funds up to 80000 dollars. Local share for the two projects would be 123 dollars if aid is secured.

Deadline Changes for Bonner County Fair Exhibits

Bonner County residents are reminded of new entry deadlines for the fair. 4-H assistant Edna Iverson notes the fair extends from three to four days. Open class exhibits have 9 p.m. Wednesday deadlines except flowers and produce which are due at noon Thursday. Non-livestock 4-H entries are due by noon Wednesday and 4-H livestock by 8 p.m. Wednesday. The fair runs Wednesday through Saturday with exhibits open 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily.

Missing Spokane youth Steve Martin sought in Newport cross country camp case

Authorities in northeastern Washington hunted for 15 year old Steve Martin of Spokane who vanished Saturday after attending a high school cross country camp near Newport. Pend Oreille County deputies said he may have run off or gone berry picking and has not been located. An Air Force helicopter assisted ground teams on Sunday but cloud cover limited air support.

Special Colors Set For Fair Thursday

Bonner County Fair will mark a Bicentennial Community with a red white and blue dress day. A recognition ceremony at 7 30 p m in the indoor arena includes J Meredith Neil address and colors, patriotic songs, and Bicentennial Community Betterment Certificates. An hour long salute to American music will follow coordinated by Dave Cooke featuring chamber music rock n roll and country western.

Sandpoint Plans Test of Public Employee Bargaining Law

In a district court session city officials sought a continuance to challenge Idaho's public employee bargaining statute with statewide support from 14 cities. Mayor Les Brown noted coordinated backing from Coeur d Alene, Wallace, Bonners Ferry and Lewiston as part of a principle driven effort.

Oliver on TV: Sandpoint Fine Arts film clips on KXLY

KXLY Spokane will air film clips from Sandpoint Fine Arts production Oliver during tonight's 5:30 newscast. Reporter Ron Bair participated in the show Saturday and will present clips of himself in a short feature. A September hour special will feature the Sandpoint Legion of Fine Arts per director Robin DuCrest.
