Idaho Gov. Andrus Requests FBI Probe Into False News Release

Gov. Cecil D. Andrus asked the FBI to investigate a fabricated news release circulated to two Idaho newspapers. The release falsely claimed Democrats backed Max Hansen as the Democratic nominee for the 2nd District, discrediting Orval Hansen in the GOP primary. All named individuals deny involvement.

Bureau of Mines Eyes Scotchman Peak Mineral Appraisal

The U S Bureau of Mines plans a summer mineral appraisal in the Scotchman Peak Wilderness area straddling Idaho and Montana within the Kaniksu and Kootenai National Forests. The evaluation covers a 62 square mile border region between Vigra Creek and Bull River north of Clark Fork River, excluding the southern Clark Fork mining district and Spar Lake deposits. A report will be sent to the President and Congress and released to the public, detailing potential mineral resources. Bureau personnel have found about 3500 claims dating back to 1887 in Bonner Lincoln and Sanders counties.

Man Injured In Auto Bike Crash Near Here

Kenneth Lee Marshall 51 of Phoenix is in satisfactory condition at Bonner General Hospital after a Tuesday car motorbike collision 10 miles north of here on US 95. William Roy Porter 68 of Sandpoint, the car driver, turned left after failing to yield. Porter and a passenger Cora Porter 57 were uninjured.

Stolen Silver Bars Recovered After Idaho Burglary

Ron Kalmbach, 31, of Pinehurst, Idaho, was arrested in Kootenai County on a grand larceny charge after $4,500 in silver bars stolen from George Jeffries residence near Sandpoint were recovered. Nine bars totaling about 900 ounces were recovered and held by the Bonner County sheriff.

A Venezuelan airliner slammed into a mountain top near Margarita during a tropical storm, snapping in half. Of 48 aboard, only one survived. Co pilot Ivan Magalanes was carried down Pinche Hill to a Caracas hospital with multiple injuries.

Nixon Subpoenaed to Testify in Watergate Trial
