Two Write-ins May Qualify In Bonner County Primary

Man Sought For Questioning In Hofmeister Case
A federal flight to avoid prosecution warrant is sought for John Surro who was arrested in Lincoln City Oregon and found with stolen items tied to the Hofmeister murder. Surro posted bond on a petty larceny charge and vanished before deputies could contact him. An autopsy says Hofmeister died by strangulation with a rope after a July 15 burglary linked to a stolen Jeep with Massachusetts plates. Investigators pursue possible connections as they probe the Sandpoint case.

Salary Schedule Okayed and Therapist Added by School Board
The Bormer County School Board approved a teacher salary schedule after weeks of talks with a federal mediator and unanimously agreed to add a second speech therapist. The new starting pay is 7500 annually, a 10.3 percent rise from 6800. The board also approved the administrative staff schedule 4-0, with a dissenting vote from Verheim over pay gaps and salary transparency. Treasurer Cordez opposed public salary disclosure. The district will hire a second speech therapist. current workload covers 135 students at 13 schools, under 4271 enrollment. Bids for coal fuel oil gas liability insurance and two pickups were accepted, with Bargain Supply winning coal and Lincoln and Colburn schools still using coal furnaces. Bitzman Oil won the fuel oil bid. Standard Oil to continue elsewhere.
