Elk wash fire burns 500 acres as crews fight it
More than 100 people were called to help battle a timber fire near Elk Washington that grew to at least 500 acres. Officials said winds pushed the blaze from 13 acres to 300 in an hour as crews from the Department of Natural Resources and volunteers worked through the night. No inhabited homes were destroyed, though several were in danger. The cause remained undetermined.

Tractor Death at Idaho Plant Involving Lagoon Accidente
Rexburg Idaho Parker 63 died Wednesday when a tractor with a mower bar attachment toppled into a lagoon at Rogers Brothers Processing Plant and pinned him underwater. Ted Rasmussen was dead on arrival at Rexburg Hospital. Employees found him trapped beneath the tractor along the lagoon bank.

Group seeks injunction to halt Blue Creek Bridge expansion
A hearing is set in U S District Court at 9 30 a m Monday on a request for a temporary restraining order and a declaratory judgment to block enlargement of the Blue Creek Bridge on Interstate 90 near Coeur d Alene. Plaintiffs include eleven Kootenai County property owners, Save Our Shores, and the Idaho Environmental Council, alleging 45600 cubic feet of mud and rock would be dumped into the lake and that a hillside route should be blocked. A bid opening for the project is planned for 2 p m Tuesday.

Heart Fails Rapid Creek Man in Sandpoint Hall
Rapid Creek resident Scott Branson aged 63 died after a heart attack at Riccardo’s on Cedar Street in Sandpoint while playing pool. Sheriff’s deputies could not revive him. he died at Bonner General Hospital. He was born in Jefferson City Missouri and moved to Sandpoint in 1964 after retiring from General Telephone. He served in World War II and was a BPCE member. Survived by widow Bernice Hays Branson brother John Tom Branson Culver City sister Mrs D Deany Norway California nephew Charles M Brown Sandpoint. Graveside rites set for Monday August 17 Pack River Cemetery.
