Methane gas from farmyard waste offers a path to replacing fuel for cars tractors stoves and lighting. Idaho designers explain biogas plants from manure can power rural homes and farms and supply fertilizer, with safeguards and government barriers noted.
Husan Karimov, a Youth Agricultural Exchange student from Uzbekistan via Russia, stays with the Francis McNall family in Bonner County for about three months. The program sent 14 Russians to the United States, with Karimov touring Idaho before moving on to Jerome, Chicago, New York, Washington D.C., and Moscow.
Sen Frank Church introduces an amendment to the Endangered American Wilderness bill to designate about 343000 acres of Gospel Hump area north of the Salmon River as wilderness. The plan includes 220000 acres as a wilderness unit 45000 acres for immediate harvest 78000 acres for development under a resource plan and advisory and research provisions with Idaho state cooperation hearings set for Grangeville later this month with August 24 target.
Tonight at 7 p m a special meeting at Kootenai School will address the Oden Bay water system serving Selle, Kootenai and Ponderay areas. Local state and federal officials will answer questions on expanding the existing system or building a new one amid controversy over adequacy.
General telephone announces delivery of a new directory to most homes in the greater Sandpoint area today. District Manager Bill Watkins urges customers to use the updated directory to save time and reduce frustration due to recent number changes.
Don Howe of Bonners Ferry heads the National Association of Wheat Growers and commends Idaho legislators Symms and Hansen for a compromise farm bill. The bill raises 1977 wheat target price to 2.90 per bushel from 2.47 and is expected to proceed toward the President and USDA approval with September action planned.
Police Chief Larry Sterling reports Sandpoint crime rose 32 percent in the first six months of 1977 from the same period last year. Larceny theft, up 47 percent, drives the increase while motor vehicle theft dropped 77 percent after a public appeal to lock vehicles and secure homes. Sterling urges residents to lock cars, bikes, and homes and keep lights on at night to curb theft.
Robert Lane 36 of Eagle Indiana was arrested Friday by sheriff's deputies on possession of a controlled substance. Bond set at 300 dollars.
