Fire Group Seeks Volunteers for August Training

Raymond A. Yaw the Northside Fire Association secretary announced a special volunteer training session on Friday August 7 at Ponderay City Hall at 7 30 p m. County Commissioner Jim Brockway returned from the National Association of Counties conference in Atlanta July 26 29 sponsored by Idaho officials. He noted western delegates focus on payments in lieu of taxes on federally and state owned land substantially large in Bonner County.

A citizen reported a burned out red light on U S 95 at 7 00 a m. Robert Vincent reported a cabin break in and theft of a barber chair bottom and an old wood stove at 3 00 p m. A Coolin report noted a non injury collision between a car and a logging truck at 5 45 p m. At 1 12 p m a citizen said kids jumped from Sand Creek bridge. Connie Roberson of Sandpoint was fined 10 dollars for failure to yield at 2 10 p m in Police Court.

Bonner County School Board Meeting Set for August

The regular monthly meeting of the Bonner County School District No 82 Board of Trustees is scheduled for Monday August 10 at 8 00 p m at New Farmin School. Bus route extensions for the 1970 71 year will be considered. Application forms for extensions may be obtained at the Administration Office 204 Main Sandpoint.

Mishap Kills Noxon Man in One Car Crash

Leslie George Vinsant Jr 20 of Noxon was killed when his car veered off a county graveled road three miles east of Trout Creek and rolled into trees. Jay Jopling 21 of Trout Creek was injured with head and neck lacerations a broken arm and knee injuries. Funeral services for Vinsant will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. in Trout Creek Community Church with burial at Whitepine Cemetery. Vinsant born August 16 1949 in Ogden Utah was home on leave from the Navy and a 1967 Noxon High School graduate. Survivors include his widow Deborah daughter Carolann parents and several siblings.

Gooby and Boyer crossings get safety upgrades after rail talks

Ken Miller reports progress in the Gooby Crossing and Boyer Avenue crossing dispute with Burlington Northern. By December 1 a flashing light signal and gate will be installed at Gooby. Boyer remains temporarily warned until the crossing is discontinued. Train crews will slow during Sand Point switching, and public pressure is credited with prompting action.

Richard C. Deden is promoted and transferred to a Forest Management position in the Regional Office Missoula Montana effective August 23 Harold E Andersen Kaniksu Forest Supervisor announces Deden began as a seasonal on Beaverhead National Forest Dillon Montana in 1960 He earned a University of Minnesota forestry degree in 1961 and held multiple promotions and transfers through Beaverhead Kootenai Flathead Kaniksu forests before moving with his wife and five children to Missoula late August
