Electrical Shock Claims Life Of Sandpoint Official

Larry Wahlgren 46 assistant forest warden with the Idaho Dept. of Public Lands in Sandpoint died Friday from an electrical shock while extinguishing a spot brush fire east of town. The injury followed a power line ground contact after a transmission pole cross arm broke. Wahlgren, a 1969 hire and former Air Force major, was two miles east of the Pack River Bridge near State Highway 200 when the accident occurred.

Hofmeister Bond Set At 5000 In Murder Case

Everett Hofmeister Jr. faced a 5 000 bond in Sandpoint District Court on a first degree murder charge linked to his wife June Hofmeister's July 1974 death. He pled not guilty and offered extradition waivers while agreeing to sheriff processing before bonding. A venue change request was deferred to August 15, along with four motions to dismiss the indictment. Bond posted Friday.

Autopsy Set Tomorrow In Pend Oreille River Death

A 29 year old Fort Saskatchewan man Dale Mohr is scheduled for an autopsy tomorrow after his body was recovered Saturday from the Pend Oreille River near Springs Point. He and a 15 year old Cranbrook girl were in a boat that ran out of gas and Mohr attempted to swim ashore at about 1130 p.m. Friday. Mohr was wearing a life preserver when his body was found at 942 a.m. Saturday. Sheriff and coroner provided details.

Idaho Tax Saving Plan Likely Unconstitutional, AG Says

Idaho Attorney General Wayne Kidwell issued a 27 page opinion noting that a 1975 legislature approved program letting state employees defer salary to reduce federal income tax probably violates the state constitution. The act clashes between title and body over a 25 percent contribution limit, suggesting the plan could be null and void if challenged.

Impact Study On Bypass Ordered In Sandpoint Idaho

The Idaho Department of Highways will start an environmental impact statement on a 1.5 mile U.S. 95 bypass affecting the old Burlington Northern train depot in Sandpoint. The depot is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, which has blocked earlier attempts to clear it for the bypass.

Two city projects begin to employ twenty workers total

Four workers started a $25,000 city hall reconditioning project funded by a Title X grant through the Soil Conservation Service. A separate four man crew began clearing a roadside park tourist information center site at the north city limits along U S Highway 95.
