New Storm Sewers Precede Pavement in Sandpoint
City crews lay a little over two miles of aluminum storm sewer pipe with 33 manholes and 132 catch basins from Jefferson to Chestnut and toward Washington and Ella. The project costs about $25,000 funded by the latest gasoline tax, enabling paving of 70 blocks within two years. A separate crew works on Kootenai water lines.

University of Idaho student wounded in accidental shooting
Rex Beatty 19 of Bonners Ferry remains in good condition at Moscow's Gritman Memorial Hospital after a 22 caliber rifle discharged while cleaning it. The bullet hit his chin and entered near his right eye. Beatty, a 1971 Bonners Ferry High graduate and grandson of Ed Beatty of Sandpoint, lost his right eye.

Crash: Victim Improving After Sandpoint Collision
Lawrence Donnerberg 20 and Sandpoint Police Officer Dale Sheffield 25 were injured in a Wednesday accident on Highway 2 at a private drive west of Sandpoint. Officer Sheffield was treated for lacerations and released from Bonner General Hospital. Donnerberg remained listed as improving. The sheriff's report says Donnerberg drove the vehicle around a curve too fast, losing control, going over a bank, and striking a tree and fence.

Traffic Count Shows Volume at US 95 US 2 Routes
The Idaho Department of Highways reported 48 hour traffic counts at multiple points around Sandpoint. On US 95 near First Ave and Superior St the two day average was 6 960 vehicles, while near Division on US 2 SH 200 the average was 3 982. A peak two day average of 9 457 occurred north of Fifth Ave and Larch St on US Highways 2 and 95 SH 200. Additional counts near SH 200 junctions yielded averages from 3 647 to 4 205 vehicles per day for 1972 projections.

Cove is 5 7 6 inches tall, 120 pounds with green eyes and long brown hair, last seen in blue jeans a plaid shirt and white jean jacket. Spring is 5 4, 105 pounds with brown eyes and long brown hair, last seen in a navy knit shirt blue jeans and tennis shoes. Authorities urge anyone with information to contact the sheriff’s office.
