Norma Strecker resigns immediately from the Bonner County Assessor post after a grand jury accusation of mishandling public funds. Prosecutor Daniel Featherston says no evidence proves personal benefit, notes missing funds were loans, and cites inadequate records but no current employee misconduct.
Hired staff published and mailed an action report critical of the Legislature. Phillis Huffman said 350 copies were prepared, 330 mailed to legislators newspapers and broadcasters. The report included daily analyses and personal staff criticisms, denying access to the Senate floor for messengers in session.
Rep. Gary Ingram of Post Falls criticized the Idaho Fish and Game Department for poor management and urged resource reform before licensing fee hikes. He opposed the fee increase as the department remained temporarily structured without a merited reorganization. The measure ultimately passed.
The Sandpoint City Council approved temporary use of the old fairgrounds display building by the Bonner County Social-Cultural Group. The coalition plans May performances and site improvements funded by about 2,500 dollars from Theatre, with other groups contributing later. The Bonner County Historical Society proposes a future museum on the site with a 1976 target, pending nonprofit status and grants.
A Pocatello citizens group criticized Attorney General Park over his stance on recall petitions for Patricia McDermott. They cited the Idaho Supreme Court ruling that Secretary of State Cenarrusa should have accepted over 2 500 signatures, noting his refusal for missing city residence names. The group accused Park of inaction and questioned enforcement of a 1907 lobbying law.
