Arson Probe Ordered For Priest River House Fire
State arson investigator summoned to determine if the Sunday night blaze that destroyed the Priest River home of William Darden was arson. Sheriff Robert Wilcox said no one was home and the specialist will arrive Tuesday at no county cost. Darden’s car was burned in a separate incident about three weeks earlier after a threatening letter. Authorities have the premises secured.

Three boys aged 8 9 and 10 from Sandpoint confessed to police that they deliberately started two fires in the past week one Tuesday in an old warehouse area behind EJ's Auto Supply and another on Saturday at the same site.

Sandpoint High School journalism student Jim Borden earned second place in the news writing category at a national contest in Los Angeles hosted by the National Scholastic Press Association and the Journalism Education Association.
