Local Boxers Win Four Inland Empire Titles
Seven members of the Sandpoint Boxing Club competed in the 1970 Inland Empire Golden Gloves tournament April 3 and 4. Dick Gance at 125 lbs won two outstanding fights and was named the outstanding fighter of the tournament. Kenny Cunnington at 50 lbs claimed the championship, while Larry Davis at 80 lbs reached the finals, losing a close decision. Other Sandpoint boxers earned victories or advanced to finals, with Kenny set for a rematch this weekend in Sandpoint. The club’s next card features 15 tournament winners in a champions match Saturday at the junior high gym starting 7:30 p.m.

Teachers Gather for National Council of Teachers of Mathematics Meeting
About 500 teachers will gather in Coeur d'Alene for a three day National Council of Teachers of Mathematics conference. Conference chairwoman Carolyn Flynn says workshops cover The Computer's Role in Mathematics Education with demonstrations of programming on a Denver IBM via telephone and discussions on small computers in classrooms. John Christensen of Idaho Falls will share student programs and work examples. Two workshops will teach programmable calculators and their classroom value.

Bulldogs Win Track Relays at Lakeland Meet
Sandpoint High School scored 32 points to win the Lakeland Relays led by firsts in the discus mile and hurdles. IHM Academy finished second with 25 points and Wallace tied for third in hurdles. Post Falls withdrew before the eight-event program. The Bulldogs also placed second in the high jump without captain John Goin.

Pilot Thwarts Hijackery On Pittsburgh Bound Flight
A San Francisco to Pittsburgh TWA flight 90 pilot diverted a youth who forced entry into the cockpit. Lynn Louis Little, 22, of McKeesport Pa, was arrested by FBI agents on arrival at Pittsburgh Airport. The pilot said the man appeared confused and no diversion was attempted.
