Stoicheff Pushes Gasoline Octane Bill Through Idaho Legislature

In 1971 and 1972 Stoicheff sought passage of a measure to require octane rating on gasoline. The 1971 effort stalled as FTC moved to issue a similar rule but postponed. 1972 Senate approved the Idaho bill but the House committee blocked it. A federal stay on FTC rules and a court ruling raised questions of agency authority.

The stabilization division of the Internal Revenue Service reviews Idaho service stations for possible violations of federal price regulations after a two cent per gallon rise. The change followed an Idaho state gasoline tax increase approved by the legislature.

Brothers Are Sentenced for Cow Destruction

In Murphy Idaho two Wilder brothers were sentenced for destroying a cow after being accused of shooting a 2 year old heifer owned by Joyce Cattle Co Magistrate Charles J Jurries ordered John Thomas Tryon 27 Wilder to 180 days in Owyhee County Jail with 120 days suspended and $150 restitution. His brother Thomas Lindsay Tryon 20 Wilder received 180 days with 150 days suspended and $150 restitution.

University of Idaho Wins Mines Ventilation Study Contract

Rep James A McClure says the US Bureau of Mines awarded the University of Idaho a 58162 contract for research identifying and evaluating factors causing high resistance to airflow in non coal mine ventilation circuits. The contract will be awarded April 6 to the university's Bureau of Mining Research.

Voters Approve New Fire District Arena Plans Discussed

Bonner County Arena Fund Association schedules a meeting for April 12 at 8 p m in the Washington Water Power building to advance plans for a new outdoor arena at the new fairgrounds and explore fundraising. The Northside Fire Association approved becoming a fire district by a large majority with 197 of 214 votes in favor, effective December 1973 after budget adjustments. new board members named are Bob Lyons Ray Yaw Bob Davidson Perry Welch and Tom Spade.

Jerome Ordered Recall Election For Two City Councilmen

Fifth District Judge Theron Ward ordered Jerome to hold a recall election for council members Walter Bentzinger and Elwin Tinker after the city did not rehire former police chief C H Puntney. The ruling denied a quash and dismissed writ of Mandamus filed by the city and the two councilmen.

High Water Delays Arrow Highway Bridge Work

Lewiston Utah Dispatch reports high Clearwater River water delays the last pier tap of the Arrow highway bridge. Douglas McAtee says the pier must be finished before girders can be erected. the 1,248 foot structure is about 40 percent complete on a $1,843,745 project about three miles east of Spalding. It will connect State Highway 3 and U S Highway 13 when finished next fall.

Delegate Selection Open To All Demos

Idaho Democrats plan an April 17 caucus at the Bonner County Courthouse to choose 20 delegates for a Burley June 16 state caucus and ultimately delegates to the Miami Beach national convention. Any registered Democrat can attend by signing a statement of Democrat affiliation. The open format marks Idaho’s first broad delegate selection.
