Tornado Toll Surges Across 11 States and Ontario

United Press International reports the worst tornado disaster in decades with at least 333 dead across 11 states and Windsor Ontario. Deaths included 98 in Kentucky and 58 in Tennessee. Ohio's Xenia city alone had 35 dead. Dozens more injured and widespread destruction across Oklahoma to Michigan. Government appeals for emergency relief amid massive property damage.

Nixon agrees to pay $432787 tax bill in bid to settle underreporting

President Nixon and Mrs. Nixon will settle an IRS bill of 432787 dollars after a Joint Committee report found they underreported taxable income by 259964 dollars and claimed 567565 dollars in improper deductions from 1969 to 1972. The settlement ends plans to contest the tax status as disclosed, with wealth depleted by the tax charge and interest.

Park Appoints Narc Board in Idaho to advise narcotics bureau

Judge set bond at 100000 for John Henry Stever 48 arraigned on Tuesday on charges of attempting to hire a Bonner County deputy posing as a hit man to kill his wife. Stever remains jailed in the county facility awaiting further proceedings.

Idaho Board Hikes Non-Resident Tuition and Fees

Idaho State Board of Education approves a $50 per semester non-resident tuition increase to raise $128,265 for priority programs. A separate $12 per semester hike at Idaho State University brings total student fees to $200 with allocations for athletics, student affairs, unions, alumni, health insurance, and scholarships. The board also swore in Dr. Leno Seppi and discussed enrollment reporting reforms as part of funding efforts totaling $1.58 million.

Andrus Signs Marijuana Law

Boise Idaho Governor Cecil D. Andrus signed into law a bill making possession of three ounces of marijuana a felony. The bill passed after lengthy debates with college students opposing it. The act may be reconsidered after six months if needed. He also signed 37 bills including a circuit breaker tax relief measure for $1.5 million in elderly property tax relief.

Driver Charged After One-Car Accident

Sheriff's deputies investigated a one car non injury crash one fourth mile south of Westmond on U S 95. The driver Rickie L Sitton 20 Spirit Lake was arrested for possession of a controlled substance.
