A U S Geological Survey study near Smelterville Idaho reports the south fork of the Cacur d Alene river with 21 ppb cadmium and 19 000 ppb zinc on Oct 8. Arsenic cobalt and lead levels were low enough to meet Public Health Service safety standards.

Manager Hedlund arraigned on abduction and assault charges
Eugene R. Hedlund 34 of Priest River faced Bonner County Magistrate Court on holding against will and forcible rape charges. Bond set at 15 000 on each with total 30 000, he seeks court appointed attorney, held in maximum security. He allegedly abducted a Spirit Lake woman, drove to Lowell Mill, threatened and assaulted her, she was treated at Bohner General Hospital. He escaped Priest River jail, prompted a two state search, later captured near Spokane by Washington State Police, extradited to Bonner County.
