Henry Newsome was arraigned in the city court on a charge he had not committed. The judge ordered six months of lessons with Captain Hedges as active exercise. Four other negroes pleaded guilty to various charges: Sam Burnett, Charlie Cumming, Son Dyer, and John Monroe.
Coroner Ainsworth conducted an inquest Monday into the death of John Watts who was shot by Mack Jackson on county line road between this county and Hancock counties last Sunday. The men had just returned from church and liquor is said to have played a role in the tragedy.
Rev Dr J B Dickey president of Emory College will preach next Sunday at eleven o clock in the city Methodist church. Officials expect strong attendance as a rally day and invite the public to attend with enthusiasm.
