Worth County Tax Digests Report Large Property Value Increase
Worth county grand jury convened in Tifton on March 27 to review a special tax digest. Union and Confederate Losses at Fort Stedman Battle
General Grant reports the March 25 1865 assault on Fort Stedman in front of the 9th Corps. The fort and adjacent lines were briefly captured then retaken with 1900 Confederate prisoners and heavy casualties on both sides. The 49th Georgia suffered 15 killed and wounded, with several noted officers mortally or seriously wounded. A coincidence notes both events occurred on Saturdays.
