After lengthy sessions and filibustering the house approved a resolution by Mr. Candler to take up Senate Bill No. 1 on Tuesday. The plan sets 4 PM for final votes on amendments and the main bill with limited debate and strict procedural rules. The galleries will be cleared during the bill’s pendency.
Sandersville women supported the prohibition bill by telegraphing and mailing petitions to legislators. The local W C T U chapter raised funds for typewriting and telegraph work and contributed to the cause.
We announce the formation of a law partnership for general practice in this county and surrounding area under the firm name of Howard and Jordan. The partnership, excluding city court practice in Sandersville, will use the former Howard and Kent offices. Signed by G. H. Howard and E W. Jordan. Hon. John A. Betjeman of Albany and chairman of the Georgia Immigration Association will address the Washington superior court at noon on Tuesday September 8. The event invites all citizens, and Betjeman’s remarks are described as forceful and entertaining.
John Clover of near Oconee, a Black man, faces two years in Washington county chain gang after two city court sentences. One case offered $200 payment plus costs or twelve months, the other requires twelve months on the chain gang.
The Tarbutton Flucker murder case will not be tried at the present term of Laurens superior court. State attorneys say trial is unwise because a surveyor has placed the scene of the tragedy in Johnson county. Until the secretary of state reverses the surveyor, Laurens will retain jurisdiction.
Local notices advertise a good milk cow for sale by B. F. Guampers and Company and offer penny work at Strange's Studio. The message ends with an invitation to visit V. H. Bedgood, the white barber.

Directors of the Wrightsville and Tennille and the Dublin and Southwestern railroads plan a consolidation at Tennille on August 1. They expect to increase capital stock by 500000 dollars and issue 300000 dollars of bonds. The move will aid Washington County with better equipment and service, as several county residents hold stock.
At the Georgia Farmers Union convention in Atlanta on July 25 delegates re elected the entire slate. Executive committee members named J H Hoyle S J Smith J D Anderson W V Martin and W T Hogue conductor T N Bazemore.
Boyer Roberts, a local Black man, was badly injured Thursday afternoon when a derrick at the power house collapsed onto him. He suffered several broken ribs and possible internal injuries. Dr Steve Malone attended to him.
President Duckworth announced Georgia now has 80,000 members, up 200 percent since the last state convention. Treasurer Bartow noted over $1,000 in the treasury with bills paid. Organizer Lee reported chartered unions rising from 446 to 1,085 in the past year. H P Billings of Augusta delivered an engaging speech to the gathering.
