At a recent religious convention closing session the chair noted a hundred dollars short of the target. A layman offered twenty five dollars to start the fund, prompting laughter when a front- row attendee whispered that the donor was Mr Blank, a town undertaker.

Washington county representative in the current session is Hon. J. Duggan of Sandersville. A well known and popular figure in the tenth district he avoids floor debates but wields influence in committee rooms. He serves on general agriculture county matters banks immigration and the blind asylum committees and participates in many reports and conferences.
Governor J M Terrell appointed Col J E Hyman as city court judge and Col G H Howard as city court solicitor for Sandersville. Hyman is a former solicitor and Howard, a Cusseta native, is esteemed in the county. Judge P R Taliaferro will complete his term in October.
Col W E Armistead W R Beach and J H Thomson report Wadley welcomed about sixty delegates for the I C C E district convention. They praise Wadley hospitality and free reception arrangements and note an invitation to hold next session in this city in December. The local I O O F is thriving with new members as the fraternity plans the visit to Solid Sandersville.
Mr and Mrs R Scarborough and relatives thank neighbors and friends of the city for their kind and sympathetic aid during the illness and death of their little baby Lola.
Sandersville officials move to meter all city water connections to end wasteful use. The plan raises minimum monthly charges and sets cost per gallon, with nine dollar meter costs to subscribers. Water revenue is targeted to about 210 dollars monthly, while electric lights show stronger revenue though street lighting remains inexpensive. Authorities aim to fund operations and eventually lower rates.
Mrs. Henry Paris hosted a Thursday reception for Miss Ray Marks of Buffalo New York. About two hundred society ladies attended as Miss Marks enjoyed southern hospitality and praised the country during her first visit to the area. The punch table was staffed by Miss Neppie Davis Pauline Garbutt Annie Nora Duggan and Thena Holt. The writer expresses warm wishes for future visits and an open Sandersville welcome.
Lola Dorine Scarborough infant daughter of Mr and Mrs C O Scarborough of Cordele died last Thursday morning in this city at her grandfather CO C Scarborough’s residence after a brief illness. Funeral service conducted Friday morning by Revs J E Spiegel and W Langston followed by interment in the local cemetery. The community extends sympathy to the grieving parents.
A special program offers amusements and a baseball exhibition between Augusta and Charleston with separate white and colored coaches and a personally conducted excursion.
