An Epworth League meeting reports irregularities in three life terms for criminal assault with mercy recommendations. The Democratic convention named Adlai Stevenson for vice president with W. J. At a crossing four miles from Augusta Georgia an engine en route to Camak struck a wagon carrying John Moore Ellen Carter and two children Maggie and Richard Heslin. The horse and agra driver escaped. Carter and the two children suffered painful bruises but no serious injuries.
Dr. Oscar Tinsley shot and killed Constable John Jones near Baconton Georgia after a dispute over a horse theft claim and a bridle. The incident followed an altercation when Jones confronted Tinsley over the matter.
In Atlanta June 98 a Southeastern Freight Association meeting sought a standard basis of cotton rates from Georgia Alabama and Mississippi to Carolina mills. A committee was appointed to confirm points and report later. Rates to mills may be settled soon as new South Carolina cotton mills alter movement patterns.
Governor Candler and Governor McSweeney have appointed delegates for the Southern Industrial League convention in Atlanta on July 18 and 30. John Wanamaker is expected to attend and may deliver an address. Officials anticipate about 800 delegates and prominent business leaders from various districts will attend.
Atlanta July 2 Houston Hall fired at his brother in law J W Power after a persecutory delusion. Hall, visiting Mrs Power, fled believing he had killed Power. The incident follows a paranoid episode and points to a grave family conflict.
