Largest man executed in Washington at noon

Benjamin Hill Snell, 44, a former pension office clerk, was hanged at the District jail for the murder of 18 year old Lizzie Wiesenberger who worked at his home. Snell weighed 296 pounds at reception and 320 at the scaffold, and the drop nearly severed his head. Doctors deemed him sane despite claims of insanity. he hailed from Georgia.

Locomotive strikes wagon near Augusta injuring four

At a crossing four miles from Augusta Georgia an engine en route to Camak struck a wagon carrying John Moore Ellen Carter and two children Maggie and Richard Heslin. The horse and agra driver escaped. Carter and the two children suffered painful bruises but no serious injuries.
