A promotional notice asserts drunkenness is a disease and offers the Home Gold Cure for one dollar. It claims thousands cured, promises discreet delivery, and includes physician advice on request. Addressed to a Philadelphia company, it emphasizes confidentiality.
Six masked men blasted open the vault of the National Stock Yards Bank near East St. Louis and took about 5000 dollars in currency and coin after nine hours of work. They overpowered two night watchmen and a fireman, bound them, and escaped, likely on horseback, as police search the area.
In Peking, a 1 30 p m parade marked the court’s return to the Forbidden City. Emperors, dowagers, princes and nobles rode in splendor beneath banners while foreign spectators watched from the gate. Incense was burned as the empire’s procession filed along a four mile route.
