Lost pocket book may contain cotton receipts and cash
On December 24 a pocket book was lost between Progress office and the rear of city hall. It contains five cotton receipts and a ten dollar bill with change. Receipts dated December 14 1906 to December 14 1908 include entries for S F Jones F Jones Ziles Roberts and others. A reasonable reward is offered.

City court opened last Monday with the heaviest docket in months and a record number of criminal trials. Many cases are blind tiger offenses continued from prior term, indicating liquor trade persists across parts of the county. The crowd resembled a busy Saturday as people filled the courtroom.
Sandersville church land history corrected by local reader
Mrs Jno B Wilkerson of Hale Springs Tennessee writes to the Herald to correct the Dec 15 paper item on Sandersville church property. She recalls the Christian church parsonage site being given by Gen Warthen for a female school and details transfers in 1859 1869 and 1870 plus names of officers and instructors.

Georgia Cotton Association to Convene in Atlanta January 2
The Georgia division of the Southern Cotton Association announces its state convention will meet in Atlanta in the hall of the House of Representatives on January 2. Officers will be elected and three new executive members named. The incoming executive committee will convene January 15 in Birmingham to prepare for the January 17 19 Southern Cotton Association meeting. President M L Johnson urges full attendance. Dr Ailsbury Mathis, Sandersville's notable citizen, died after several weeks of illness at about 65. He lived much of his life in Washington County and was a respected physician and businessman. He is survived by two children, Horace and Martha Mathis.
