The First Baptist church of San Saba held a Sunday home coming with about 300 in attendance. Rev T A Binford preached an eloquent sermon at elveen o'clock and President Tom Taylor of Howard Payne College spoke on uplifting ideals. A noon meal followed with extensive food and fellowship as former pastors Binford and Coleman greeted attendees and Prof Lawson led the song service, making it a day of great church fellowship and inspiration.

Bethel School to Close With Two Night Programs

Live Oak Sunday School and Sing Song is expanding with weekly gatherings each Sunday night. Last Sunday about 250 people attended from nearby areas with Fairview supplying a singing quartet and pianist. J H Burke sold a car load of wool from the Burke ranch to Henry D Allen, buyer for Charles Webb Sons Co Inc, eastern buyers, at twenty cents a pound. Wool last brought twenty cents about two years ago, a recall noted by locals.

The county census lists compiled by the equalization superintendent Hillman show a rise of 3 scholastics from last year. Richland Springs district up slightly while San Saba Independent and common school districts dip modestly. total county rolls total 2,816 with San Saba 741 and Richland Springs 375. Voc-Ag Boys Win Honors At District Debate Contest
E I Bacon Vocational Agriculture teacher took his high school team to Brownwood for the district public speaking and debating contest. Jack Harkey and Gordon Doran won first and second in public speaking, while Marshal Fox and Leonard Edmondson won first in debate. Each contest awarded a loving cup. A fire set over three months ago continues to smoke in San Saba. J D Carter burned trash on the vacant lot north of the News office, where wood yard debris and sawdust ignited and have kept burning despite three to five inches of rain.

High Winds Damage Corn and Dry Land in County
Northwest winds last week caused extensive crop damage across the county with corn curled by the gusts. First Applicants In Reforestation Went Out Saturday
H. L. Timmins, chairman of the San Saba county Relief Committee, says enlistments for reforestation relief have begun with the first two applicants departing Saturday. San Saba county may provide 21 men for the project. Applicants must be single men 18 to 25 who have been enrolled in county relief work and have dependents. They will go to Austin, then Fort Sam Houston for training before assignment to a unit. The program aims to send workers to camps for vocational and mental training under the New Deal.
