The San Marino Historical Society hosts a nostalgia event at Southwestern Academy on May 24 at 7 30 p m. Ken Veranda guides a 1913 tour of the newly incorporated city with missions rancho era roots, ordinances, and early changes. Public invited with free admission.
Local author Michael Napoliello will present Nine Famous Artists Your Children Will Love at the Huntington Library, Art Collection & Botanical Gardens on Saturday June 5 at 2 30 p m in Friends Hall. The event is free and open to the public. Napoliello has been appearing in museums across California hosting workshops for children and parents on art appreciation. Parents who introduce their children to art early foster lifelong learning and higher self esteem.
San Marino High School graduate Michael Yung, son of Nancy and Dr. Allan Yung, has taken over the 40 year Pasadena dental practice of Dr. William Stark at 696 East Colorado Boulevard Suite 224 in the Playhouse District above El Portal restaurant. An open house with catered refreshments is set for Tuesday May 25 from 11 00 a.m. to 2 00 p.m.
A dozen stray ducklings appeared on Del Mar Boulevard at noon Tuesday stopping traffic as Bryant Air Conditioning workers nearby watched. The San Marino Police Department corralled the quackers with a cardboard box and tarpaulin and took them to the police station. Lt. Chris Petersen confirmed the incident to The Tribune.
San Marino City Club welcomed six inductees Patricia Gonzalez Marie B Williams John P Williams Frank W Chen Charles A Austin and Barbara MacIntosh at the April gathering. President Tom Santley notes 28 new members since January and total membership at 438. Patricia Gonzalez heads Wells Fargo San Marino office and has ties to Pasadena.
Girl Scout Troop 193 from San Marino Service Unite delivered one hundred Easter baskets to Children’s Hospital Los Angeles. The 5th grade girls from Valentine School and Coolidge School earned the Bronze Award and began the path to the Gold Award. Brownie Troop 235 helped assemble baskets on Good Friday and staff were overwhelmed by the delivery. The hospital issued a Certificate of Congratulations.
The Community Center Steering Committee from the city council and school board schedules a needs analysis for potential recreation facility expansion. A 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. session on Saturday at Valentine Elementary will include public comment and presentations from groups such as AYSO Regions 40 and 214, San Marino Little League, PONY League, and the San Marino Tennis Foundation.
The Chinese Club of San Marino announces participation in the 2004 World Cup Dragon Boat Tournament to be held July 31 and August 1 at Marine Stadium Long Beach. Director Andrew Yip cites diversity teamwork and family fun as goals. Call (626) 447-8147 for info.
The City of San Marino invites veterans and residents to the fourth annual Memorial Day service at Lacy Park on May 31 at 9 00 a m around the flagpole and memorial. Veterans Francis Barker and Ed Blecksmith will speak, Barker a Bataan Death March survivor. Congressman David Dreier due to appear. Contact Aaron France at the Recreation Department for details.
Lucy Hilands chaired a San Gabriel area Republican Club event as Joan Veon delivered a keynote condemning globalism from the San Marino club podium. Veon, traveling from Maryland, framed her talk as an avocation and recounted her 1998 Rome moment that spurred her anti globalist stance.
