Four Pacific Fleet submarines including the Cusk skippered by Paul E. Summers depart San Diego and Pearl Harbor in mid July for a Arctic Ocean ice pack test. The operation directed by Rear Admiral Allen McCann aims to ready US subs for Arctic combat, meeting near Kiska and proceeding through the Aleutians toward the 70th parallel north. Horses Captured By Patton To Be Shown At Pomona Event
At the Los Angeles County Fairgrounds Pomona celebration on July 4 the public will see for the first time in the U.S. horses and equipment taken by Gen George S Patton Jr from the Hapsburg royal stables in Austria and sent to the U S Remount Depot. The Lippizaners will be displayed in the grand entry parade of the fifth annual gymn and horse show by Los Angeles Sheriff's Posse No 8. The royal breed was created in 1580 for the House of Hapsburg.

Captain Robe Kimball of the 306th group in the Eighth Air Force is home on terminal leave. He joined the service as an aviation cadet in May 1949 while at South Pagadena San Marino High School and earned his commission a year later.
