Phil Ryan leads an adult fitness program at Lacy Park as part of San Marino Recreation. The longtime educator aims to build discipline and cardio health, with six week sessions running June 22 to July 3 at 5:45 p.m. weekdays.
San Marino city council unanimously keeps the EMT team for at least six months while evaluating a new paramedic firm. Last week’s meeting also addressed traffic concerns and potential liability if paramedics are delayed due to other calls. Fred Kroesche and Archer Morgan spoke in favor of retaining EMTs amid concerns over the three year paramedic initiative voters approved in November.

An overflow crowd gathered at the Old Mill Pomegranate Patio for the Friends of the Old Mill annual meeting. Dr Edwin H Carpenter lectured on journals from Hubert Howe Bancroft’s Southern California travels in 1874, praising donors and volunteers including Harriet Doerr and Mrs. Lawrence Text.
The San Marino branch of the Red Cross holds its annual meeting on Tuesday June 23 at 4 pm in the San Marino Public Library. Officers and the board of directors for 1981 42 will be elected. Louis Creveling will receive a service pin and a yearly activities report from the Pasadena Red Cross chapter.
Entry forms for the Seventh Annual All City Fourth of July Swim Meet are due at the Recreation Office by 4:30 p.m. Tuesday. San Marino Rotary Club co sponsors the meet which starts at 9 a.m. at San Marino High School pool. Residents of San Marino Unified School District eligible for up to five events based on age on meet date. High point trophies awarded, heat ribbons for each heat, and best times required for entry. Forms with 75 cent per event fee due. Swimmers without best times may qualify at pool on June 15 16 17 or June 22 23 from 4:40 to 5 p.m. Pool opens at 9 a.m. on meet day. locker room and concession stand open.
The San Marino City Council will hold a public hearing Monday June 22 at 5 p.m. in the council chambers to discuss the city budget and insurance coverage related to cable television.
More than 60 seniors were honored for achievements across departments. Winners included Eric Warner Douglas Lee and Cameron Harris for Bank of America awards. Students earned numerous honors in English math science language social science drama music and art with several portable prizes and scholarships noted.
