San Marin residents have donated over $800 to the United Service Organizations drive with a $1200 local quota. Local treasurer John A Barton urged more contributions as the national appeal continues, noting $727.50 arrives by Monday night and that the goal funds recreational centers near cantonments for service men.
The San Marino Business Association wrapped up a successful year at a Monday meeting in Huntington Cahans saratawia. Members elected Dr. J Gordon Epperson president, Paul Sloggett vice president, George Gantus secretary, Miss Mabel Cowton treasurer, and welcomed a new board of directors. A steak dinner, patriotic decorations, and a Girls Glee Club performance highlighted the evening.
San Marino's Church of St. Edmund the Martyr opens Sunday June 22 at 11 a.m. Rev. William Cowans of Redlands will serve as rector after 15 years at Trinity Church. The picturesque edifice on San Gabriel Boulevard north of Huntington Drive cost about $9000 to build.

A burglar gained entry to the Tom Hammond home at 730 Chaucer Road last Sunday by smashing a north side window pane and a French door pane. He took about $10 in cash from an upstairs dressing room, left $100 in paper money, and jewelry unseen. The Hamonds were away from 10 AM to 9:30 PM. police are investigating.
The 101 Huntington School graduates prepare for grammar diplomas on June 26. South Pasadena-San Marino Junior High Principal Hans Koolen will speak at the student body meeting to greet incoming high school work. Kenneth White will discuss jobs, with Hope Smith presiding. Miss Edrys Nagle notes an informal class party tomorrow with a strong program.
Forrest Hall, 461 Palm Arcadia, driver for Arden Milk Farms, was seriously injured in a 1 15 p m collision at California Street and Sierra Madre Blvd. His truck hit a palm tree after losing control, bruises cuts and a broken left leg. Nurse Mrs Boyd Gibbons aided him and called an ambulance to Huntington Memorial Hospital.
Endorsements from leading citizens buoy the Boy Scout Cabin campaign chaired by Walter Moore in San Marino. Over 40 workers call on Cub and Scout parents to raise funds for a new cabin in Lacy Park to replace the 16 year old structure, with committee members drawing from local scouting and community life.
Roy Milton Iliff died Saturday shocking a wide circle of friends. He served as assistant superintendent of telegraph for the Santa Fe Railway coast lines and authored the 1930 novel In the Red. Last rites were held yesterday at Wee Kirk o' the Heathe with interment at Forest Lawn.
Southwestern Military Academy holds commencement Friday at 8 p.m. Three cadet captains Gardner Marston Gene McCune and Dwight Goodwin graduate with diplomas to be presented by Major Maurice Veronda. The event features a theme Our Country in Art Music and Literature and a related declamation by each graduate.
Professor Howard Gray retired Caltech educator living at the Athenaeum is recovering from injuries after a Sunday night collision on Mill Lane. He was walking near the Virginia Road intersection when a eastbound car struck him with its left front fender. The driver stopped and offered help.
San Marino City Council, with Mayor Pro-tem William Hertrich, addressed zoning variance petitions, planing for Huntington Drive re zoning while approving amendments and hearings. Reports from San Marino indicate Mayor Richard H. Lacy, hospitalized after a heart attack at his Garfield Avenue home, is greatly improved and expected to return home early next week. He is receiving visitors and recovering well following last week’s incident.
