San Marino Garden Club votes funds for city plantings
At a board meeting the San Marino Garden Club voted to donate 200 to the city toward plantings along the Pacific Electric right of way. The club also honored Mrs. Chester A. Swift with an Epiphyllum plant for her service this past year. The season ends with a June 10 meeting at 10 a.m. in Mrs. William Hertrich’s garden with Mrs. George P. Putnam as guest speaker.

Field Day Planned by San Marino Post at Chevy Chase
San Marino Post No 239 of the American Legion holds its annual Field Day at Chevy Chase Country Club on Saturday June 7 starting 1 30 pm. Activities include putting contest horseshoes hop skip and jump and a sack race followed by a baseball game. Allan Maxwell is nominated commander and will help lead events and prizes are awarded for each event. Also tonight and tomorrow the Huntington School graduating class presents Pied Piper of Hamelin in the school auditorium with tickets available from graduates.

San Marino Community Church will host its Children’s Day and welcome Dr. P Martin Baker as the newly elected pastor in his first pulpit appearance. Den Dads Name Delegates To Local Councils
Representatives of San Marino Cubs were elected to the San Marino Community Council and the San Marino District Scout committee at a Den Dads meeting led by Wallace Weirick. Maurice Jones and Roy Bolstad will serve the community council, while George Miller and Kenneth Verling join the Community Scout Committee. Jones was the first Cubmaster of San Marino’s cubs, with Miller Verling and Bolstad serving as assistant Cubmasters in 1941. Stanley Arndt, current cub master, already sits as a member at large of both bodies and will complete his terms.

Mark H. Harrington of 1795 Warwick Road joins the San Marinans called to service. He is now Lieut Harrington aboard a ship bound for Hawaii to serve on the U S S Idaho. He left Tuesday from San Diego. A 1920 Annapolis graduate and Naval Reserves member, he is prominent in local civic and social life.

New Exhibits Shown To Friends of Huntington Library Monday
The Huntington Library and Art Gallery hosted an open house for Friends of the institution with major displays in the Trustee's Room featuring John Doyle cartoons and Defoe and Twain collections. Highlights included rare Bibles from 1611 and 1077, medieval documents, architecture exhibits, a tropical plant display, and tea on the lawn with period music.

In May San Marino issued permits totaling 263,910, leading nearby cities. Alhambra and Arcadia followed, with 213,011 and 217,770 respectively, while San Gabriel South Pasadena and Sierra Madre posted smaller totals.
