Three SM Alumni Plan Six-Week Bike Trek Across China
Three SMHS alumni Lee Zuckerman Jesse Cheng and Marjorie Hsu will bike across mainland China this summer for six weeks from June 24 to early August starting in Beijing and ending in Hong Kong. They aim to raise funds for the Asian Pacific Family Center aiding at risk youths. Zuckerman studies at Johns Hopkins University Cheng attends Princeton University and Hsu is a Stanford graduate.

The SMUSD Citizen's Oversight Committee meets Osborn Architects at 7 p.m. to discuss proposed school site plans ahead of the June 10 Board of Education meeting. California Dropout Rate Falls Further in 1995 96
The California Department reports ninth through twelfth graders in 1995 96 with the statewide dropout rate dropping to 3.9 percent from 4.4 percent. Eighteen schools reported zero dropouts, including San Marino Unified, which had 1,068 students, and Acton Agua Dulce Unified with 374. State Superintendent Delaine Eastin cites benefits of higher standards while noting 58 000 total dropouts remain and over 90 percent of new jobs require some postsecondary training.

Starport 97 Grad Night Set Moves Ahead
SMHS Move Back Day culminated Friday May 30 as parents and school teams shifted painted pallets from Wells Fargo to the high school site to assemble Starport 97. Volunteers worked long hours with meals and drinks provided.
