A Christmas Eve program at South Pasadena Junior High School featured a festive old world setting with carols songs and dancing. Members from the Huntington PTA drama group and San Marino Community Chorus performed as decorously attired revelers under master of ceremonies Albert J. Adams.
The Stoneman P T A and Mrs L T Bradford hosted a Tuesday meeting where third grade children sang Christmas carols and Mrs Bradford gave a talk on children's books. Hostesses were Mrs Harold Cake and Mrs G H Teter. Mrs Nelson Crow urged service and kindness in a reflective report.
Troop No. 23 San Marino earns grand prize a $10 gold piece in Pasadena Girl Scout Council Christmas doll contest. Twenty-eight dolls were dressed by 12 members led by Captain Mrs E D Sanders and Lieutenant Mrs Gladstone Kellogg. Twenty-six troops involving 260 girls entered, with 272 dolls judged across Pasadena area. Honorable mentions go to Muriel Royce Constance Kistner Verna Pace and Margaret Owens from local troops. Dian Jones, 8 12, receives special note though she is too young to be a scout.
The San Marino National Bank in California reports October 25 liquidity with deposits of 119,638 and circulation 50,000. It holds 134,558 in U S Government securities and 34,934 in cash, totaling 169,487 for a liquidity rate above 99 percent.
The two month old subscription contest ends at 6 p m Saturday. Prizes awarded Tuesday at 4 p m at The Tribune office credits go to leading contenders John Morse and McDearmon Bee with Joe Peachman and Allen Dickey also in the race. Readers may boost a candidate by renewing subscriptions before Saturday night. Full results to be published next week.
Chief Parker cautions residents about a winter influx of tramps and hoodlums during the holiday season. San Marino women are told to leave a light on when shopping to avoid an open invitation upon return. The alert follows reports of low flying aircraft endangering locals near Los Robles on Saturday November 25. William P. Coleman of 2102 Los Robles notified police about the disturbances at 8 15 that morning.
At the San Gabriel Welfare Association directors meeting on December 7 at 203 E Mission Drive San Gabriel Mrs Frank A Palmer was re elected president for a fifth year. Mrs William Fulton of Alhambra was chosen first vice president and Mrs Stanley Bent of San Marino second vice president. Miss Mary Cairns, serving 17 years as treasurer, was re elected. Mrs Richard Watts of San Gabriel was re elected recording secretary.
The San Marino School District reports orange crop income from the Bradbury estate. The district owns an elementary site in the southeast section and may harvest on a share and share alike basis. Recent receipts total $182.55 with $54.18 presented at the last meeting.
City Council with Mayor Lacy in session grants John F Hanna a special permit to build a one story residence at 2155 El Molino place. The request, backed by building inspector George H Crowshey, allows a slightly larger lot usage. Also approved are a gas station at Los Robles and Mission and removal of Hanna's real estate office.
A Christmas ceremonial for 48 San Marino Camp Fire Girls was held last evening at 7 30 at the home of Mr and Mrs C H Reynolds 636 Winston avenue. The mothers and fathers of the girls attended the ceremony.
A school tour led by Billy Campbell of the eighth grade showcased festive decorations created by pupils and teachers. The visit, part of a regular weekly call for school news, highlighted the charm of the Christmas displays across the school’s rooms.
The City Club announces its new year leadership led by president Percy L. Cowherd with C. W. Cornell as head, Arthur G. Baker as vice president, H. A. Armstrong as secretary, and Edward R. Kerr as treasurer. Board members include J. M. Berryman, Harry Weber, Walter J. Miller, Claude B. Davis, Hugh Gordon, Dr. W. F. Lewis, and P. L. Cowherd.
