McKesson Named Los Angeles County District Attorney

A San Marino resident, Superior Court Judge William B. McKesson, 61, was sworn in as Los Angeles County district attorney after appointment by the board of supervisors to fill the late S. Ernest Roll. McKesson vowed to run the office with administration of the law in mind. His family and a former presiding judge attended the ceremony, noting his 1944 bench appointment by Gov. Earl Warren and election in May that year. He resigned from the bench December 1, 1945, to accept the post.

Beautification Plan For Business Area Proposed By BPA

City of San Marino disbursement figures show salaries comprise 56 percent of outgo for the year. Total salaries reached $528,348, with police and fire departments accounting for $242,144. General government payroll totaled $54,815, while street and highway payroll rose to $43,310.

San Marino Building Inspector Sophus J. Press approved three new residences totaling 148000 in November. Sewanee Builders Inc of Arcadia plans a seven room home at 2705 Tura Lane for 38000. Frank W. Abbott of Avonrea plans an eight room home at 1660 Shenandoah for 50000. Bill and Associates will build a one room home at 610 Chaucer for 60000.

City Club Planning President's Ball in Huntington-Sheraton

John H. Ramboz of Oak Grove Avenue is confined to Huntington Memorial Hospital with virus pneumonia. The Rambozs just returned from a European trip two weeks ago and faced harsh conditions during a New York dock strike before falling ill. Rampirez is expected to return home next week.

Thief Steals Liquor by the Case in San Marino

Two and a half cases of liquor vanished from Ruth F. Miller’s Circle Drive home after burglars shattered a rear window Monday. A case of bourbon a case of gin and part case of wine were taken. The loss was found Monday afternoon.

Jones Named to State Scholarship Commission

Maurice Jones Jr. of San Marino becomes a member of the State Scholarship Commission, succeeding Earl C. Bolton. The nine-member panel, created in 1955, oversees 300000 in state scholarships for needy students and plans 640 more scholarships next year. Bolton will attend the San Francisco organization session December 11 and remains with the University of California in a higher duties role.

Death Claims Father Of Mrs. H. Mayer

Funeral services for Frank Atherton Jr., 74, father of Mrs. Helen Mayer of this city, will be held Thursday at 1 p.m. at Chapel of the Chimes, followed by entombment at Inglewood Mausoleum. The Santa Monica resident died Sunday. he was a retired grain and milling company operator and a member of Falls City Lodge 82 F and AM of Patterson, N.J. Redondo Lodge 328 will officiate, with Hammond-Mispagel and Ruppel Funeral Directors in charge. He also leaves a son Dr. Robert Atherton of L.A., a granddaughter Mrs. Carolyn Dille, and two great grandchildren.
