Elder R Morgans and wife Huntley circle finish six week world tour after visiting Hawaii Fiji New Zealand and Australia They describe Melbourne stadium crowds and strict rules while noting Australians gratitude for US aid During trip they met local officials and Rotarians and toured six destinations with several meals and lodging constraints.
The San Marino Tribune sets earlier deadlines for the holiday issues to give staff the holidays off. Advertising copy including classifieds must arrive by Monday noon December 24 and December 31. Picture and church news must be in by the Friday before publication and all news by Monday noon.
Pierre de Vrahnos famed owner of Pierre's Restaurant on Huntington Drive died November 30 in Paris from a heart attack after prolonged illness. The body will return to Southern California for burial at Forest Lawn. Survived by his wife and two daughters, services to be announced.
Laura Ann Carpenter of San Marino and Orlando Road dies at 93 after a long illness in a Pasadena sanitarium. Native of Illinois she spent 45 years in San Marino leaving two daughters Mrs. Roy Harper and Mrs. Wilder deBuy and three granddaughters. Private funeral and interment held at Forest Lawn Little Church of the Flowers.

F. R. Wilcox of the city has been named new general man and will take office January 1. He joined the Sunkist organization in 1939 as director of marketing research and was treasurer that year, later serving as assistant generator and treasurer. His daughter Patricia attends Pasadena City College and is a graduate of Oakia School. Mrs. Wilcox belongs to the Huntington Hospital Guild and San Marino Garden Club.
SMHS hoops schedule an alumni game Friday evening December 2 at 8 p.m. in the high school gym. The 1856 Varsity meets the alumni team with players Dick Chalk Mike Roci Brad Perry Tom Cottle Tex Kiner Fred Nelson Don Koch and Bob Twist. Admission benefits the student body.
The Other Wise Man will be staged December 19 at 8 p.m. in the Elmer C. Nehe auditorium. San Marino High School students and staff, including the band and Titan Tones, participate in acting and behind the scenes roles.
The San Marino Board of Education will hold a special session on December 19 replacing the regular meeting due to Christmas. President Robert Treuer announced the meeting starts at 7 30 p m.
William W. Dundore of Sacramento age 35 chosen to succeed E Randall Kerr as city clerk in San Marino. He starts December 17 and takes office January 1. Dundore, native of Portland Oregon, educated at UCLA, worked seven years in the State Controller's office and five years as a governmental auditor. Kerr served 27 years in San Marino, 21 as city clerk.
The San Marino Business and Professional Association completed its Christmas decorations for the year. Last weekend the PE station at Sierra Madre hosted holiday decor activities and community events.
Three San Marino High School 1896 graduates were named USC calendar girls in the El Rodeo Calendar Girl section for 1957. Linda Hickey won the Rose of Delta Sig honor and will enter the national Rose of Delta Sig contest next spring, receiving a trophy and a perpetual cup for her sorority house. Glenell Berggren and Sherrie Keiser join as three of 11 featured girls with Keiser slated for September and Berggren for March.
San Marino High School held its annual football awards banquet with the B and C teams receiving letters and certificates under Athletic Director Garland Lewis and the football staff. Pomona College assistant coach Jess Cone gave an inspirational address on training, discipline and clean play. Varsity honors went to Bill Cooper as MVP and John Hurt as most improved. co captains were Cooper Kerckhoff and Jim McDonald.
The South Pasadena council approves a 400 thousand dollar project to beautify Huntington Drive from Mont Avenue to Primrose Avenue. The plan includes three 12 foot lanes and improved frontage, with details still to be determined.
Four candidates from San Marino were nominated for 1957 commerce positions. The group includes residents chosen to represent local business and civic interests in upcoming selection.
San Marino High School Titans go 3-0 in preseason play defeating Arcadia 49 39 with 21 points from Dick Barrett and Monrovia Duarte 16 points to pace Monrovia Duarte Grandgils. The Titans rally from halftime to beat Monrovia Duarte 46 36 as Bob Sommers leads with strong second half scoring. The SM Invitational tourney at SMHS includes Arcadia South Pasadena San Gabriel with Friday matches and a Saturday final.
Herbert Hoover Jr. of Orlando, residing on Orlando road, resigned as under secretary of state this week. He had led the department recently during John Foster Dulles illness and plans to return to private business, with no immediate date set for his return to a San Marino home.
Mrs. Fred Garrison chairwoman of the San Marino Red Cross reported that San Marino is far short of its $1745 quota for Hungary relief. She urged local contributions and provided the collection address at 1424 Kenilworth Avenue, San Marino.
Morgan was elected by the BPA to represent the organization on the Community Council for two years, succeeding John C. Dalzell who has served since 1954.
Dick C Schnell, a 15 year old San Marino High School student, reported $14.35 in cash and $75 in checks stolen from his wallet in an unlocked gym locker on December 7. He told police the items were missing from the school gym.
Mrs Florence Kolda reported a hitching post missing from her Huntington drive yard. The item valued at 40 dollars was reported to San Marino police on December 8.
Santa Claus visits scheduled Friday December 14 in San Gabriel and Mission districts with hours from 9:30 to 12 a.m. and 1 to 9:30 p.m. Saturday December 15 covers Chelsea Del Mar and Bedford from 9:30 to 12 a.m. and 1 to 4:30 p.m. December 22 lists two morning and afternoon gift talks at Huntington Chelsea and San Marino Avenue little church. The Congregational Church Children's Chorus performs December 19 at the little church under Mrs Harry C Crowell Jr with later girl scout singing sessions.
