The county library Summer Reading Program brings free shows this summer at the San Clemente Community Center. Five 10 30 a.m. Thursday performances run June 27 to August 1 except July 4, plus 9 30 a.m. Tuesday story times through August 13. Reading prizes and June 22 signups. Call 949 492 3493.

RINGS OF FIRE KEEP BURNING
San Clemente may escape a ban on beach fire rings as the South Coast Air Quality Management District revises the proposal. Beaches with 15 or fewer rings would be exempt. rings must stay 50 feet apart. For venues with more than 15 rings, minimum 700 feet from homes is required, which San Clemente cannot satisfy. A hearing is set for July 12 in Diamond Bar.

San Clemente completes two year plastic-foam ban compliance
San Clemente marks two years since banning plastic foam use by eateries. Assistant City Engineer Tom Boni gut reports all 253 food facilities subject to the ban are in compliance after initial violations were corrected. Twenty kitchens were initially out of compliance but later met requirements following warnings and adjustments to materials. The ban targets litter on beaches and in the ocean due to foam’s light, easily dispersed nature.

Bill Thomas thanked by the Beaches Parks and Recreation Commission in his final meeting after 15 years. Eric Swartz not seeking reappointment.
