Edison records no summer restart for San Onofre reactors
Southern California Edison says both San Onofre reactors will stay idle through August with contingency steps to avert south Orange County power shortages. An NRC inspection team will report June 18 on the January 31 steam generator tube leak that shut Unit 3 and wear in tubes in both reactors. Unit 2 restart is unlikely this summer. Unit 3 restart will take longer. Edison tests equipment, engages in conservation outreach, and relies on other plants and a new transmission line to meet peak demand. The June 18 meeting at the San Juan Capistrano Community Center will run 6 to 9 p.m.
