Special to the Sunday Light reports the state board of medical examiners will convene in Dallas on October 7 to review applicants seeking licensure to practice medicine. The meeting will evaluate qualifications and determine eligibility for licensure.
City council hears testimony from Dr. Chas A Campbell and dairymen after a formaldehyde test showed traces in milk samples. A committee chaired by Dr. Barker examined tubes with milk and water, confirming Campbell’s report and detailing testing procedures and witnesses including A. L. Gray.
The board reviewed a committee report finding sustained charges of cruel punishment by teacher J Gill at School No 8. The panel recommended suspension of one month and policy updates requiring parental presence for severe punishments or suspension/expulsion if not consented to.
In Jamaica L I Sept 18 two young teachers Miss Orr and Miss Til plan to resign after being transferred to teach in a negro school. The color line in public schools grows as white students from fifth and sixth grades are moved to Lincoln, provoking parental anger and demands for separating classrooms in the high school.
Senator Thomas C. Platt says the Republican state convention will endorse President Roosevelt. He notes no pledge of New York's support in advance, while confirming the administration's nomination merits.

Newport September 13 Grand Duke Boris caused a social stir by a dining room miscue at Mrs. Richard Gambrill’s dinner. The grand duke’s reaction led to several guests withdrawing and Mrs Gambrill refusing to apologize, souring royal goodwill among Newport society.
Rear Admiral Schley and Mrs. Schley are in Boston returning from the Adirondacks. The admiral says retirement has him enjoying civilian life and that he is out of naval affairs, comparing himself to a blind eastern god and declining to comment on recent naval maneuvers or future squadron assemblies.
Special to the Sunday Night from Austin Texas reports a fire at Dr. Ralph Steiner’s home at Seventh and Rio Grande. Origin traced to a servant’s lamp left burning. Damages tally about 1500 to the house and 2000 to furniture, with insurance. Water damage nearly equals the fire loss.
State Revenue Agent Cunningham announces imminent suit against Austin attorneys delinquent in occupation taxes. Similar actions will follow against lawyers in other counties who have not paid taxes.
Louis F Ullrich reports about twenty five carrier pigeons missing from his residence at 326 Elm Street. He believes the birds were stolen and notes they were the nets of his late son who died recently.
A man who sits on the pointed end of a tack will surely get pricked as the sharp object punctures his seat.
Former New York Mayor Abraham Hewitt says there can be no arbitration of the coal strike. Hewitt warns that if President Mitchell forces arbitration, it would spark a industrial upheaval stalling progress for years. He accuses Mitchell of mimicking Debs and Schaeffer failures in attempting to bend operators.
Special to the Sunday Light reports killing frosts nipping standing crops across the northwest last night. The local weather bureau warns the frost may recur tonight. The affected area includes Minnesota, the Dakotas, Wisconsin, Iowa, Nebraska, with light frosts reaching parts of Kansas.
Austin notes an effort to organize Texas tax collectors with a preliminary Dallas meeting during the October state fair. W J Tucker of McLennan urges unity to reform tax laws, simplify statutes, and push for a general state assembly of collectors in 1903 with support from state executives.
In Alvarado Texas on September I D Bailey was slashed with a knife and is believed to be dying. B P Gregory was arrested in connection with the assault.
San Antonio defeated Beeville 12 to 4 at San Pedro park in the second game of the series. Ikey Pendleton returned at third base amid crowd cheers, while Beeville’s captain vocally argued and threatened to withdraw his team. Darlington started for Beeville and was replaced by Dean, with Santleben pitching for San Antonio and notable fielding and base running incidents shaping the afternoon.
Austin Texas Sept 15 The railroad commission docket for next week focuses on three main items. A 3 cent rate cut on cotton shipments to Galveston and New Orleans due to improved handling is set for Tuesday. A hearing on oil tank car charges and return times to shippers is scheduled for Wednesday. The commission also reviews annual reports from railroads and warns tardy filers they may answer to the attorney general.
A 4 PM start saw Taylor and Staton pitch for Beeville while San Antonio relied on non salaried players. Beeville drew about a thousand fans as the crowd cheered the captain’s good natured jeers and two fine center field grabs by Taylor.
