A Mapimi Mexico water supply disaster reports a spring of arsenic tainting reservoirs and pipes killing thirty and poisoning three hundred. Officials sought fresh water and medical aid as fears of wider contamination spread among miners and Americans in Mapimi and surrounding camps.
Retail tobacco dealers in New York fear the American Tobacco Company and related firms aim to seize control from planter to consumer. They suspect United Cigar Stores, possibly linked to the combine, will run its stores into Texas, expanding its retail influence despite denials.

Dr B Sampson, president, returns from six weeks in Colorado refreshed for the opening of the theological seminary in Austin on October 1. Rev R F Vinson, formerly of Austin college at Shemman, has accepted a chair and will relocate his family to Austin soon.
Austin officials announce at yesterday’s school board meeting the construction of a new colored high school in Gregorytown. The modern building, to be located in the eastern colored settlement, is planned to cost $474,000.
A permit to do business in Texas was granted to the Union Cigar Stores company, incorporated in New Jersey with principal offices in Jersey City. Capital stock $125,000. The Texas office will be located at Houston.
Austin Texas September 6 Adjutant General Scurry orders all officers of the Texas Volunteer Guard to submit at once a full record of their military service dating from the start of their service.
State Purchasing Agent Dodge reports supplies for state institutions are arriving by car load. He also notes an adequate fuel oil stock for the institutions that use it, ensuring steady operation across facilities.

John B Hood Camp Confederate Veterans announces a meeting next Tuesday at 4 PM in Odd Fellows hall Ninth street Congress avenue to plan the unveiling of the Confederate monument in the state capitol grounds. The monument should be completed by month’s end and the camp will fund the unveiling events with state cups expected to attend.
Huntsville Alabama September 6 The proposed merger of southern cotton mills draws top mill owners to a conference with eastern bankers who would underwrite the plan About sixty mills are pledged to join with thirteen in Alabama and Huntsville plants Dallas and Merrimac reportedly excluded The leadership hopes to complete underwriting within forty five days and all Huntsville mills except Dallas and Merrimac will join the organization
Austin Texas September 6 The Railroad Commission reports no annual filings received from railroads that had not previously submitted. About 30 of 60 Texas railroads have sent in reports with many large lines still delinquent. They have until September 15 to comply or face action by the attorney general.
Local business growth leads to a second switch engine and crew on the night shift. Charlie Olephant is placed in charge of the crew.
Charles Spahn the popular fireman at Southern Pacific welcomed a fine boy Friday. Alfred Bishop Mason of Vera Cruzani Pacific arrives in San Antonio in private car from Mexico. Peter Sterling Ballard and R L McWibbin of Southern Pacific make brief city visits. Several SP machinists hired as new shops install machines. Indian Sackanax tribe coachload passes through on the SP en route to Mexico.
Special to the Sunday Night New York notes Mrs. Julia Fleischmann wife of former Cincinnati mayor Julius Fleischmann as latest woman to own race horses under the name Mr Avondale. The choice reflects a Walnut Hills suburban retreat and Cincinnati home of Fleischmann.
A strong wet norther moved through Austin and surrounding areas at 9 this morning, dropping the temperature about 20 degrees. Rain fell heavily for a time then eased to a mist that persisted all day.
Corsicana Texas September 6 the Navarro county election just closed was the closest in years with four boxes heard giving the antis a 119 vote majority though only about 260 votes total remain. No disturbances reported.

New York reports Prof. Robert J. Hill prepared for the Franklin Institute provides an exhaustive study of the Beaumont oil field and nearby Texas fields. It notes initial doubts about sulfur content harming boilers but chemical analysis shows the oil can be refined into kerosene and the residue serves as fuel and gas making material.
In New Orleans on Sept 5 a new crude oil burner trialed an automatic self feeder that uses steam generated in a copper coil to atomize oil.
