Rifle Stolen From Tom Sharn Gun Shop

Two men entered the Tom Sharn Gun Shop at 708 Fredericksburg Road and left with a .301 caliber Enfield rifle while the owner was momentarily turned away. Police report the theft occurred Tuesday. In a separate incident Earl Wilson of Kelly Field reported a car prowler stole clothing worth $49 from his parked vehicle on East Crockett Street.

OPA Case Heads Docket and Court Actions

Docket includes an OPA case against J A Stutts of Stutts Produce postponed to October 21 after new defense pleadings. Isom Produce settled out of court with $3200 paid to U S treasury for OPA price violations. Nine persons including two juveniles were sentenced by Judge Ben H Rice for varied offenses such as juvenile delinquency and illegal entry. some sentences suspended or fines imposed. U S attorney authorized to drop charges against Helen Walters upon recommendation.

Archbishop Ritter Installed As St. Louis Archbishop

The Most Rev Joseph Elmer Ritter aged 54 was enthroned today as archbishop of St. Louis at the cathedral with apostolic delegate Amirto Giovanni Cicognani presiding. Ritter succeeds the late John Cardinal Glennon, the fourth archbishop in the city’s 99 year history. Glennon died in Ireland last March while returning from Rome. Ritter previously served as archbishop of Indianapolis.

FCC Hears Gas Line Plea By Reynosa Pipeline

The Federal Power Commission reopens the Reynosa Pipeline Co proposal to ship Texas natural gas to Monterrey Mexico. Robert T. Wilson, company president, says a 30 mile $750000 line is financed and talks with Gas Industrial de Monterrey to move the gas to Monterrey. A 136 mile, $3000000 Mexican pipeline would handle up to 60 million cubic feet daily. Oral testimony ends and briefs due October 28 with a ruling expected in about 60 days. In New Orleans the Fifth Circuit reviews a Texas suit seeking to overturn the June 8 export order, arguing it depletes a critical natural resource.
