Negro trial guarded by troops in Elbert County Georgia
In Elbertton Georgia on May 26 UPI reports National Guardsmen guarded the courthouse and streets during the trial of John Downer a black man charged with attacking a white woman. Four whites were wounded in a jail mob attack May 18. Downer and three other Black men from Atlanta are held for trial.
