Legislature Final Money Bill in Senate
In Austin on May 25 the eleemosynary appropriations bill topped four big money measures awaiting Senate action. The Senate completed the higher education appropriation at 67,503,898 for the next two years, adding 2,000,000 for a new medical school beyond the Finance Committee’s recommendation. The House moved through constitutional amendments and bills, passing Sam Hanna’s Aquor control act amendment 104-14 and increasing the game, fish and oyster commission to a larger agency 63-33. A tax remission bill would return about 363,000 annually to Ft Worth for flood control. A measure creating a 3-4 member committee to suggest election law changes passed, and a conference report raised state membership fees from 4 to 6. Three constitutional amendments were finally passed by the House and sent to the Senate for approval.
