Arsenal fire at Alabama national guard arsenal
Montgomery Ala May 15 An investigation into the mysterious blaze at Alabama's national guard arsenal was ordered by Adjutant General Ben M Smith. The fire destroyed about 1500000 in equipment and the 42500 arsenal building, with new gear stored for summer maneuvers. Flames appeared in front and rear of the building and two outbreaks seemed unconnected. The arsenal sits near Kilby Prison where 1700 inmates were restrained by walls and wind sent wire into the prison. Convicts remained calm.
