Ft Sam Houston National Cemetery to gain 9000 grave sites
Nine thousand new grave plots will be added at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio on 15 acres adjacent to the existing site. VA administrator Richard L. Renderbush notified U.S. Rep. Henry Gonzalez that development should complete by August 1977 with bids issued in August 1978 and a contract the following month. Gonzalez, who had argued since the late 1960s for more acreage, cited that policy limited expansions but noted the master plan already envisioned expansion using government land.
