FLOOD OF LAWS PROMPTS CALL FOR TEXAS WILDLIFE REFORM

Governor Coke Stevenson urged centralized control of Texas wildlife resources amid a flood of local bills. He proposed statewide powers for the game and oyster commissions over open and close seasons and bag limits, warning that hasty local laws hinder uniformity and practical management. A State game commission member noted the current bill had bogged down, with fears of bureaucratic overreach and slow action in the legislature. Wildlife conditions are seasonal and vary by county, complicating restocking and season timing.
